Using the YourPlace system to benchmark performance
The YourPlace system allows for a vast amount of local area information to be constructed at regular periods. This information is then compared with other areas of Australia to build up a picture of benchmarked performance across the decade 1991 to 2001. Some of the series are best updated in Census years whilst others have the capacity to be updated more regularly. For a local government, having identified issues in the YourPlace system it is possible to construct locally based measures between Census periods which track the performance of that particular issue.
The measures highlighted in red attack the heart of employment outcomes;
- Job readiness, through looking at social security data analyses the community's social, especially labour market, distress.
- Household growth looks at economic growth from the point of view of households, in terms of growth in employment and incomes.
- Industry and household jobs from national growth is a way in which the short term forecast or outlook of the economy at the industry level across Australia can be translated into outcomes locally. For instance if transport is growing in general how many jobs would be expected in Hume, all other things held equal.
